Attackers of don, not FUGA students – Registrar

The Federal University Gashua (FUGA), Yobe, has denied the claim that some students of the university launched a violent attack on their lecturer, Dr Samiu Dagari.
The disclaimer is contained in a statement by the Registrar of the Institution, Dr Abubakar Mamuda, in Gashua.
Our correspondent reports that a viral video depicted four youths giving Dagari strokes of cane in Nguru, his home town.
Mamuda said the viral video was deliberately manipulated to mislead the public and tannish the image of the university and its students.
“ The attention of the management of Federal University Gashua, Yobe, is drawn to a viral video clip going round in the social media and a few online newspapers, alleging that some students of Dr Dagari of Chemistry Department attacked and flogged him.
“ We want to categorically state that the story is false and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and tarnish the good image of Federal University Gashua and its virtuous students.
“ The said incident did not occur in the University but rather in the hometown of Dr. Dagari and at his family house.
“ The attack was executed by some thugs sponsored by a politician. The thugs who assaulted Dr. Dagari are not students at Federal University Gashua,” he said.
The registrar said the incident had been reported to appropriate security agencies and investigation was ongoing.
Mamuda stressed that Dagari is a popular senior lecturer adored by his students and the entire university community.
