Buni empowers Yobe youths with 2,650 irrigation pumps, tricycles

Gov Mai Mala Buni of Yobe on Thursday flagged of the distribution of 2, 650 empowerment tools and equipment to youths in the state.

Our correspondent reports that the equipment were tricycles, irrigation pumps, sewing machines, barbing saloon kits, pasta-making machines and hairdressing material, among others.

Speaking at the occasion in Damaturu, Buni said the event was in continuation of his administration’s support to the less-privileged.

“ You will recall that on 23rd February 2023, we launched the distribution of 100 units of Toyota Avensus cars loaned out to 100 beneficiaries at subsidized rates.

“ Similarly, 400 widows, 254 vulnerable persons and 1,600 small and medium-scale businessmen and women were also supported with working materials and cash support for various trades.

“ The occasion today is therefore in continuation of our effort towards driving employment generation and Wealth creation.

“ There is no doubt that small and medium-scale businesses create employment opportunities to combat poverty,” he said.

The governor expressed optimism that the empowerment drive would speed up post-insurgency recovery and wealth creation in the state for stability and prosperity.

He, therefore, charged the beneficiaries to put the equipment to use and avoid selling them, saying government would monitor the beneficiaries in their various trades.

In his remarks, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, Commissioner, Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation, said distribution of the equipment would commence shortly after the inauguration.
