CITAD Urges INEC to ensure smooth condition of elections materials, timely distribution to polling units

Center for Information Technology and Development CITAD has urged Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, to ensure that all election materials such as BVAS are in good condition in order to avoid what happened in the presidential and National Assembly elections last month.

The Digital Rights Officer of the Center, malam Ali Sabo stated this at a press briefing organized by the Center, held in Kano on Thursday.

Malam Ali also said, it’s the responsibility of INEC to further ensure delivery of election materials to the poling unit across the country on time and all election results should be uploaded to INEC result Viewing portal IREV as stipulated in the 2022 Electoral Act.

The center also called on the Nigeria police to remain neutral and not allowed politician to use them against their opponents.

“The Nigeria Police force to desist from being used by politician to intimidate Voters, Journalists and also election observes during the next election period”Sabo added.

“To further ensure the protection of election infrastructure in order to have smooth transmission of election results without any compromise in the country” Ali Sabo hinted.

“In the presidential Election an National Assembly election held on 25th of February, 2023, sad incidences happened in some part of the country including Kano, where reported cases of malfunction of election materials, Such ad Biomodal Accreditation system BVAS were recorded, Ali Said.

Malam Ali also called on Nigeria Communication Commission NCC, Human Rights Commission, Nigeria Data Protection Bureau NDPB, National identity Management Commission NIMC among others, to ensure the protection of citizens Data, Privacy and respect of their rights in the next coming election for governor and House of Assembly in the country.

“It is important to emphasize the need for respecting the Privacy of individual and ensuring that their data is being kept in a safer place and not allow third party to have access to it, Sabo said.
