JIRS launches JEET to block leakages of loosing N42 billion annually

The Jigawa state Internal Revenue Service (JIRS), launched Jigawa Enlightenment and Engagement Team (JEET) with aims to improve revenue generation services in the state.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, the executive chairman of the board Malam Nasir Sabo Idris promised to double revenue generation in the state from now to the year 2025.

The chairman who decried low tax payment in the state said, with new strategies apply under his leadership through use of digital tax collection system, the board target to increase the revenue generation by twenty percent before the end of this year, sixty percent by next year and double the revenue in the next two years.

According him, The JEET team will be use to block leakages and tax fraudulent collection through digital registration as well as enlighten the tax payers about electronic payment to avoid any fraudulent.

“Though I’m new appointed chairman of the board but we estimated that in 2021 the board able to generate N42 billion, and if this leakages are blocked we will double the tax collection by the end of this administration” ,he said.

The chairman identified some of duties of JEET as tax payer education and enlightenment, Registration tax payers, engagement with stakeholders and Data collection, effective handle of media information among others.

He then called on workers union, MDAs and all other stakeholders to cooperate with team to achieve the desired objectives of moving Jigawa state forward.

While delivering her speech during ceremony, the state commissioner of finance professor Hannatu Sabo Ahmad said, Jigawa state depend heavily on federal grant as only twenty percent of the Budget generated internally.
