Malaria control : ACOMIN calls for recruitment of healthcare professionals in Jigawa

As part of effort to eliminate malaria in Jigawa state, a non governmental organisation popularly known as ACOMIN urged state government to embark on massive recruitment of healthcare professional in the state.

The call was made by ACOMIN State Program Officer comrade Auwal Ibrahim during the media briefing held at Dutse the state capital.

Comrade Auwal who also called on the mass media to contribute to Nigeria’s goal of eliminating malaria by amplifying their voices against in unhygienic environment said, recruitment of environmental health workers will reduce spread of malaria.

He explained that, media professional can use their medium to enlighten the members of the public and ensure their environments are well-kept and void of stagnant water, waste-forming receptacles for water, and open water storage containers around where mosquitoes can breed, as well as to channel stagnant water drainages during this season.

The SPO added that, members of the public particularly heads of households should ensure proper use of mosquito nets to protect family members from malaria and use protective clothing if they must sit outside at night.

“Once members of the family are feeling feverish, they should be taken to the nearest health facility for testing and proper treatment”, he said.

He then call on government at all levels to increase the budgetary allocation for hospital infrastructure and equipment, implement effective recruitment and retention strategies to attract and retain skilled healthcare professionals and prioritize the development of reliable electricity and water infrastructure in healthcare facilities.
