NEDC assures Yobe of quality infrastructure projects

Major General Paul Tarfa (rtd), Chairman, North East Development Commission (NEDC), has assured Yobe state of quality work in the ongoing infrastructure and other development projects embarked by the Commission across the state.
Tarfa gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy visit to Gov Mai Mala Buni of the state in Damaturu.
He said the projects cut across sectors would positively impact on the lives of the people in Yobe and the North East region.
“ The reconstituted board of the NEDC is ready to continue their projects and assess both completed and ongoing initiatives”. The visit also aimed to gather the demands of the people in the state.
Tarfa also assured that the NEDC would do everything possible to ensure unrestricted access to development in the North East region.
He commended the present administration in Yobe state for their dedication to rapid infrastructural development, making the state stand out as an example.
Responding, Buni appealed to the Commission to renovate the Geidam Polytechnic and Gujba College of Agriculture vandalized by the Boko Haram insurgents.
He added that the activities of Boko Haram insurgents in College of Agriculture Science and Technology, Gujba witnessed the worst of humanitarian crisis in the recent time, where many Students were slaughtered, buildings and utility vehicles were destroyed by the armed attackers.
Since then the institution, according to him, was relocated to one of the Secondary Schools in Damaturu the state capital, pending the intervention of North East Development commission.
Represented by his deputy, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, Buni said Geidam Polytechnic experienced same attack, as buildings and utility vehicles were destroyed.
He appealed to the Chairman, Management of the NEDC to look into their predicament and find a possible solution to enable them possess the requirements of NBTE.
The governor noted that the NEDC has intervened massively in construction of houses, roads, classrooms and distribution of palliatives as well as provision of health care facilities to the vulnerable.
He urged the Commission to ensure full implementation of the master plan to fast track the development and recovery of the North East sub- region.
On the NEDC scholarship for Education Endowment fund (EEF), he expressed concern that many youths in the state were yet to benefit from the initiative.
