In a formal handover ceremony, the new Governor of Kano state in Northwestern Nigeria, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, expressed his disappointment over the insufficient handover notes left by former Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who won the Governorship Election on March 18, highlighted the absence of detailed handover notes during his speech. He mentioned that previous governors, from Kwankwaso to Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, had all stayed and personally handed over power to their successors, unlike Ganduje.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf explained that the refusal of himself and his team to accept Ganduje’s invitation for a physical handover on May 28 was to avoid any illegalities and violations of the provisions stated in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Furthermore, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed concern about the substantial debt of over 241 billion Naira accumulated by the previous administration under Governor Ganduje. He questioned the source of funds to repay this debt and acknowledged the responsibility it places on his government.
Governor Yusuf extended his gratitude to the people of Kano state for their unwavering support during the election and assured them of his commitment to improving their welfare. He also commended Alhaji Usman Alhaji, the Secretary to the Kano state Government, for facilitating a smooth handover process
