Nigerian Army undergoing series of transformation – COAS

By Bala Dauda, Damaturu
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.- Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja has announced that the Nigerian Army is undergoing series of transformations to tackle security challenges.
Lagbaja stated this while on an official visit to Sector 2 North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in Damaturu on Saturday.
He said upon assuming office as COAS, he immediately began implementing reforms that would adequately train, equip and motivate personnel.
“ So be rest assured that the Nigeria Army is undergoing series of transformation in order to accomplish our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment.
“I am conscious that you, the troops are the critical elements to discharging our responsibilities, so you must get the very best in order to perform optimally.
“We are going to look not only the challenge that confronted you in the theatre, but all the challenges that your families at home are confronted with.
“Electricity, water supply, dilapidated barracks accommodation and also the challenges that confronted the families of our departed colleagues,” he added.
The COAS said he had taken note of all the challenges outlined by the sector commanders and the commander of the Nigeria Army Special Forces and would look into them.
Lagbaja, however, said the Army expects all officers and men to reciprocate the gesture.
“ while we do this, we equally demand that you reciprocate the gesture of the government and the Army high command.
“We demand of you to continue to remain disciplined, focused on our mission.
“ Do not get carried away by what you read in social media, discussions in bear parlours and drinking joints,” he warned.
The COAS charged the troops to remain disciplined and loyal to government and the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The Army is a disciplined organisation and our loyalty is to the government and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“We do not expect you to deviate from that. If you have a challenge or problem there are appropriate channels to express your grievances.
“But we will not tolerate you going out of those established channels,” he said.
In his remarks, Gov Mai Mala Buni appreciated the army for restoring and maintaining peace in the state.
Buni, represented by his Deputy Alhaji Idi Gubana assured the state government’s commitment and support to all the security agencies in the state.

It is real absurd that beats ones imagination to note that cracking insurgency bedevilling virtually the entire northern part of Nigeria is probing a hard nut for the Nigerian Armed Forces! Unless there is a conspiracy between the Western intelligence and the various armed forces of the West African Region, how can a few disorganized militants defied the well trained, equipped with the state of the art military hardwire and numerically strong armed forces? The earlier the better, specific timelines are developed to guide our Military to crush these acts of banditry and insurgency which are crippling our economy gradually! The ECOWAS assembled Armed Forces should be repositioned to fight insurgency in the Region rather than to focus on a Regime change which is purely an internal affair of the affected country!
