Sen. Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe East has empowered 60 members of his constituency with 60 tricycles, bringing the total number of tricycles distributed by the lawmaker to 196.

Speaking at the distribution exercise in Damaturu, the state deputy governor, Alhaji Idi Gubana, commended the senator for the empowerment programme.

He said Geidam had once again demonstrated his well-deserved mandate by supporting his constituents to become self-reliant.

Represented by Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, an aide to Gov Mai Mala Buni, Gubana said the respected senator had given his people a sense of belonging in line with the vision and policies of Buni administration.

“ Sen Geidam, a former governor of Yobe State, is one of the most respected legislators in the country. I must say he is giving this state a worthy representation.

“ I am optimistic that, giving his experience, he will bring more dividends of democracy that exceed the ones he provided in his first term at the senate,” the deputy governor said.

In his remarks, Geidam, represented by Alhaji Kuwata Goni, said distribution of the tricycles was part of his initiative to create employment, especially among youths.

“ Furthermore, 136 tricycles were distributed in the last exercise. Today we are distributing another 60 tricycles.

“ There is no doubt that commercial tricycle business maybe considered small scale but the important lesson which we want our youth to imbibe is that of self-help or self-employment.

“ I am glad to learn that most of the beneficiaries of the last exercise are reaping the benefits of economic independence, and some could move on to diversify their businesses,” the lawmaker said.

Geidam said he also facilitated training of youths on fish farming,Pomade making, Solar installation, tie and dye, sewing, shoe and Bag making, among others, under his Skills Acquisitions Programme.

A beneficiary, Goni Su’u, thanked the lawmaker for the support and pledged to make judicious use of the tricycle given to him.
