Shun drug abuse, Kano govt. urges students

The Kano State Commissioner Ministry for higher education, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata has warned students of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology Wudil to avoid drug abuse.
Dr. Kofarmata gave the warning yesterday during a meeting with stakeholders at theatre hall of the University in a continuation of familiarzation visit to state-owned tertiary institutions.
He pointedout that drug abuse is the major social vice that destroy human life, urged the students’ union to serve as ambassadors in order to create massive awareness camping against the menace.
The Commissioner assured that government would not spare any student found using or selling drugs in all state-owned institutions.
Dr. Yusuf also said in order to enhance other curriculum activities, the state government would soon set up a sports committee that would organize sports competitions within all state-owned institutions.
In his remark, the Vice Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai, has congratulated the Commissioner for his appointment which he described as well deserved.
He said the university has numerous challenges, which include inherited liability of the defunct administration worth N2.5 billion, pension staff among others.
He then urged the Hon. Commissioner to intervene on the lingering issues for the development of the University and education in general.
Responding on the demands presented by the Vice Chancellor, the Commissioner said the government will look into the issues for immediate possible solutions.
The visit was rounded up with interective session from academic and non-academic staff, students union, community of the university, among others.
