Suspected Boko Haram insurgents allegedly kill 10 in Yobe

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have allegedly shot and killed nine persons in Ganga Tilo, a town at the border between Borno and Yobe states.

It was gathered that the victims, all residents of Buni Gari in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe, were ambushed when they went in search of one Abba Gawi who went missing and was found dead on Friday.

A source told our correspondent that Gawi went to Ganga Tilo on Thursday to collect firewood but did not return, a situation that prompted the victims, including his two relatives and six neighbors, to embark on his rescue mission.

The source listed the deceased names to Include Alhaji Gawi Madu, 37, Abubakar Gawi, 30, Kachallah Lampa, 60, Grema Bukar, 35, Ambiya Dikko 35, Mala Dikko, 30, Ibrahim Manga, 50, Babangida Amadu, 40, and Baba Bukar, 35.

When contacted, the Police Spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident, saying a joint task force had visited the scene, recovered the bodies and subsequently released them to their relatives.

“ Efforts are on to trail the hoodlums as joint operation has commenced.

“ The police command urges the communities in those areas to remain calm and report any suspicious movements, persons or objects to the nearest security formations for prompt action,” he said.

Our correspondent reports that Gujba is one of the areas worst hit by decades-old insurgency in Yobe, which claimed dozens of lives and destroyed many properties.

Friday’s attack came months after the area had recorded improvement in security and near absence of the activities of insurgents.
