The All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council in Yobe has congratulated the party over Thursday’s stay of execution order granted by the Court of Appeal, Gombe, allowing the party’s candidates to contest Fika East and Ngoya/Ngeji state constituencies election.

This is contained in a statement by the Council’s Director-General, Sen. Mohammed Hassan and its Director-General, Media and Publicity, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed.

Our correspondent recalls that the Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu had on February 6 barred the APC from fielding candidates for the two constituencies’ elections.

The court ruled that the May 26, 2022 APC’s primary elections held at the constituencies did not comply with Section 84(13) of the Electoral Act 2022.

According to the statement, the Court of Appeal at its Thursday’s sitting took applications for stay of execution in both appeals and granted the stay of Execution Order.

“ This Stay of execution order provides our candidates with the opportunity to participate in the forthcoming state assembly elections.

“ I therefore appeal to our candidates and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and within the confines of the law.

“ We are optimistic that we will emerge victorious in the governorship and state assembly elections in the state insha Allah,” the statement said.
