2027: Northern Support Group Begins Mobilisation for Seyi Makinde
The President of the Northern Nigeria Support Group for Seyi Makinde, Honourable Babangida Abubakar Haruna, popularly known as Sardauna, has said the group has commenced grassroots mobilisation across Northern Nigeria in support of the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, ahead of the 2027 general election.
Haruna made the disclosure during a prayer session and horse racing event organised by the support group at the Kano Race Course Ground, popularly known as Filin Sukuwa, in Kano.
According to him, the gathering was organised to seek divine guidance and blessings for Makinde’s presidential aspiration while mobilising support for his candidature across the region.
He described Makinde as a leader with a distinct vision for Nigeria, expressing confidence that the Oyo State governor possesses the capacity to provide a fresh approach to addressing the country’s socio-economic and governance challenges.
“Our mobilisation has already commenced across Northern Nigeria. We believe Nigerians deserve a leader with a different strategy capable of rescuing the country,” Haruna said.
He maintained that Makinde’s achievements in Oyo State demonstrate his capacity to govern effectively, adding that the governor’s record in infrastructure development, education, agriculture, healthcare and security distinguishes him from many political leaders.
Haruna further stated that despite political challenges, Makinde has remained focused and consistent in pursuing his political ideals.
“He is a man who keeps his word. Nigerians should be willing to give credible leaders an opportunity instead of repeating past mistakes without expecting different results,” he added.
The support group leader explained that the programme commenced with special prayers for Nigeria and Makinde’s presidential ambition before participants converged at the race course for a horse racing display, which he described as one of Northern Nigeria’s cherished cultural traditions.
He prayed for Allah’s guidance, protection and success for Makinde and urged Nigerians to continue praying for peace, unity and credible leadership as the country prepares for another electoral cycle.
Haruna also highlighted some of the achievements recorded under Governor Makinde’s administration in Oyo State.
According to him, Makinde’s administration has prioritised infrastructure development through the construction and rehabilitation of major roads, the “Light Up Oyo” initiative, development of modern transport terminals and the implementation of an Independent Power Project to improve electricity supply to public institutions.
He further cited reforms in the education sector, including the abolition of secondary school levies, recruitment of thousands of teachers, the acquisition of sole ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), and the upgrade of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education into a University of Education.
On economic development, Haruna said the administration had revitalised agriculture through the establishment of the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub, introduction of tractorisation support for farmers, agricultural financing initiatives and reforms aimed at improving internally generated revenue.
He also pointed to investments in healthcare through the rehabilitation of primary healthcare centres and continued support for the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, as evidence of Makinde’s commitment to security and public welfare.
Governor Seyi Makinde recently emerged as the presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) for the 2027 general election and has continued to receive endorsements from various support groups across the country.
