ADC Loyalists In Kano Reject Alleged Governorship Candidate Imposition
Fresh controversy has emerged within the Kano State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following allegations by some party stakeholders that the party leadership is attempting to impose a governorship candidate ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Reacting to the claims, a group of party loyalists dismissed the allegations and accused those behind the press conference of pursuing personal interests rather than the unity of the party.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Adnan Mukhtar Tudun Wada said the individual claiming to be the state chairman of the party no longer holds the position, citing a Federal High Court judgment that allegedly removed him from office.
According to him, the party leadership is currently working on establishing a caretaker committee after resolving issues relating to aspirants seeking various political offices across the country.
He also rejected claims that the party had constituted or endorsed an Elders Committee, describing the activities of its purported chairman as an attempt to gain political relevance.
“There is nowhere the party endorsed or appointed the so-called Chairman of the Elders Committee. This is being done out of sheer greed for power and relevance,” he said.
Tudun Wada further disclosed that the party had recently convened a consensus meeting involving two leading governorship aspirants, Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Amin Little and Ibrahim Khalil, during which both agreed to abide by the decision of the party regarding the selection of its governorship flag bearer in Kano.
He expressed surprise over a recent press conference allegedly endorsing one of the aspirants and claiming that a valid election had already taken place.
Questioning the legitimacy of the purported election, he asked why one of the aspirants, Ibrahim Khalil, would sign a consensus agreement in Abuja if he believed the election was valid and conclusive.
“We are loyal party members and will not do anything that will undermine the integrity of the consensus committee and our great party. We are patiently waiting for the decision of the national leadership,” he stated.
Tudun Wada reaffirmed the commitment of Ibrahim Ali Amin Little to the growth and development of the party, expressing confidence that he would eventually emerge as the ADC governorship candidate in Kano State.
He added that supporters of the aspirant were prepared to mobilize across Kano to celebrate his emergence once the party leadership concludes its selection process.
The development highlights growing tensions within the ADC in Kano as party members await the outcome of the consensus committee’s deliberations and the decision of the national leadership on the governorship ticket.
