The management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has clarified that Dr. Nasa’i Gwadabe, a lecturer at North West University, Kano, is no longer affiliated with the institution, following reports circulating on social media linking him to the university.

In a statement issued by the university, MAAUN explained that Dr. Gwadabe served as a Visiting Lecturer on a one-year appointment which expired in May 2026 and was not renewed.

The university stated that visiting lecturers are employed on one-year contracts, with renewal dependent on satisfactory performance, institutional requirements, and management approval.

According to the statement, Dr. Gwadabe’s appointment was among several visiting lecturer contracts that were not renewed after the completion of their tenure.

The management urged members of the public and media organisations to accurately report the matter and avoid describing Dr. Gwadabe as a current staff member of the university, stressing that his association with MAAUN ended in May 2026.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding students, the university said it operates a zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment, abuse, and exploitation.

As part of measures to combat sexual misconduct, MAAUN disclosed that its Founder has instituted a reward of ₦5 million for any female student who reports and provides credible evidence of sexual harassment or assault by any lecturer or staff member through the appropriate institutional channels.

The university also dismissed other claims circulating in relation to the matter, describing them as inaccurate.

It refuted allegations that a student had been delayed for two years, explaining that such a claim was impossible because the institution only recently graduated its first set of students.

Similarly, MAAUN rejected reports alleging that a postgraduate student was among the victims, noting that the university is yet to commence postgraduate programmes.

The management maintained that such claims were factually incorrect and urged the public to verify information before sharing it.

The statement concluded by reiterating the university’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, accountability, and academic excellence while ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
