Mujahid Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, son of the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has petitioned the Kano State Police Command over alleged defamatory statements made against him by the spokesperson to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

The petition, dated June 17, 2026, was filed through the law firm of A.A. Shirawa, Nasirudeen & Partners and signed by Barrister Nazifi Yusuf Gorondutse.

According to the petition, Sunusi Bature, who serves as the Director-General of Media and Publicity to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, allegedly made remarks during a political gathering in Kano on June 13, 2026, accusing Mujahid Gwarzo of being involved in the collection of a gratuity fund popularly referred to as “Awwalaja” from the 44 local government chairmen in the state.

The petition further alleged that Sunusi claimed the funds were handed over to Mujahid’s father, Alhaji Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who previously served as Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, and that the money was subsequently used to acquire plots of land and farmlands.

Mujahid’s legal representatives described the allegations as false, malicious, and damaging to their client’s reputation. They noted that the statements were widely circulated through a viral video on social media, resulting in what they termed significant reputational harm.

The lawyers therefore urged the police to investigate the matter and take appropriate legal action, alleging criminal defamation and character assassination.

The petition marks another development in the ongoing political exchanges among key figures in Kano State, as political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
