MA Abubakar Congratulates Bauchi NMA on Successful AGM, Unveils Healthcare Agenda for 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Bauchi State for the 2027 election, His Excellency Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, has congratulated the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Bauchi State Branch, on the successful conduct of its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election of new state officers.

The election, held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, produced a new State Officers Committee that will serve from 2026 to 2028.

In a congratulatory message, Abubakar commended the association for conducting a peaceful and credible electoral process, describing it as a reflection of the professionalism and democratic values upheld by the medical body.

He specifically congratulated the newly elected officials, including Dr. Kabir Abdullahi as Chairman, Dr. Bello Ibrahim as Vice Chairman, Dr. Nur Gazali as Secretary, Dr. Gabi Umar as Assistant Secretary, Dr. Suleiman Aminu Tukur as Financial Secretary, Dr. Ya’u Julde as Treasurer, and Dr. Auwal Kwankiyel as Public Relations Officer.

The former Bauchi State governor urged the new leadership to remain steadfast in promoting professionalism, ethical medical practice, and the welfare of medical doctors and other healthcare workers across the state.

He also encouraged the executive committee to build on the achievements of previous administrations within the association while working with relevant stakeholders to improve healthcare delivery and address the state’s poor health indicators.

Reflecting on his administration between 2015 and 2019, Abubakar highlighted several interventions made in support of the medical profession. According to him, his government donated an 18-seater bus to the NMA, secured a Certificate of Occupancy for land designated for the association’s permanent secretariat, and implemented the upward review of medical officers’ salaries under the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).

The APC governorship candidate further outlined his vision for the health sector if elected in 2027, pledging to declare a state of emergency on healthcare infrastructure through the large-scale renovation of secondary and primary healthcare facilities across Bauchi State.

He also promised to provide emergency ambulances, deploy solar-powered energy systems to accident and emergency units, maternity wards and paediatric sections, and improve the recruitment and retention of healthcare workers through better welfare packages.

According to Abubakar, his administration would provide modest accommodation for medical personnel, enhance hazard and rural posting allowances, and ensure comprehensive health insurance coverage for all health workers.

He further pledged to strengthen collaboration between the Bauchi State Government and federal tertiary health institutions to improve referral services, augment the health workforce, and enhance the quality of healthcare delivery.

In addition, he said his administration would proactively engage national and international development partners to mobilise additional funding and technical support aimed at strengthening human capital development and tackling the state’s health challenges.

Abubakar expressed confidence that close collaboration between the government, the Nigerian Medical Association, other professional health bodies, healthcare workers and development partners would accelerate the delivery of accessible, resilient and high-quality healthcare services to the people of Bauchi State.
